Working of Plunger pump.

Don't Click Here: This is a reciprocating type of pump.
Was used in automobiles as lubrication pumps in the earlier days, now it’s obsolesce.

Main components if a Plunger pump are:
  1. Plunger.
  2. One way restriction (Valve-both inlets an outlet).
  3. Casing.--Technical Videos--
Plunger: as shown in the fig: the plunger is the reciprocating part of the pump which sucks the oil and pressures it out.
One way restriction (valve-both inlets an outlet): this is a one way restriction valve used in both the out-let and in-let on the plunger pump. In the inlet side it opens towards the plunger and in the outlet in opens against the plunger (see the arrow marks).
Casing: the section in which the plunger is reciprocating and the valves are fixed.

Plunger pump.
As shown in the figure the plunger is connected to a link to which the drive is coming, do to its design as the drive reaches the plunger it starts to reciprocate (up and down). When it moves up, suction is happening (marked in green) as a low pressure is developed which allow the inlet valve to move towards the plunger (so oil or fluid is sucked and trapped inside the inlet casing). As the plunger moves down the trapped oil is pressures out (due to the pressure the out let valve opens which let this happen) marked in red.--Technical Videos--
