Otto-Cycle, Base for the design of a Spark Ignition Engine.

Don't Click Here: The Otto-cycle is the theoretical background on which a spark ignition engine was constructed. In this topic we are discussing about the two aspects of the Otto-cycle:
  1. Theoretical Otto-cycle
  2. Actual Otto-cycle.
Theoretical Otto-cycle: As explained in the video and fig:1, it is denoted with a pressure volume graph, pressure in "Y axis" and volume in "X axis".--Technical Videos--

Fig: 1, Otto Cycle.
It assumes that as the process starts "1" the cylinder is full of air, and from 1-2 the adiabatic (no heat transfer is involved in this process) compression of air is happening. From 2-3 constant volume (isometric) combustion is happening, from 3-4 again adiabatic expansion of air is happening and from 4-1 exhaust.

This is just a theoretical concept the actual working is different, the adiabatic process is not involved in actual diesel cycle as its impossible to produce an engine with no heat transfer involved.Don't Click Here:
Actual Otto-cycle: As shown in fig:1, 1-2 the intake process in happening, 2-3 compression, 3-4 combustion, 4-5 expansion and from 5-1 exhaust, as mentioned above no adiabatic/ isometric process are involved in practical concept.  --Technical Videos--
