The space shuttle is a space craft which is employed for space excavation jobs. Usually they are used for climate analysis or for launching satellites. This topic we will be discussing about the flightpath of a space shuttle and the process involved in this flight path.
Major components of a space shuttle:
1. 1.Two solid rocket boosters (SRB)
2. 2. External fuel tank (ET)
3. 2. Orbiter.
Two solid rocket boosters (SRB): As shown in the figure the SRB is used to lift the orbiter to the particular altitude required, from where the orbiters can self travel to the orbit.
External fuel tank (ET): this tank stores the required amount of fuel for the SRB to lift the orbiter.
Orbiter: this unit is in the shape of an airplane and used to carry astronauts and pay loads.
Space shuttle flight path explained:
Stage 1: as shown in the figure, at this stage the SRB, ET and Orbiter are joined to be a single unit. As the two solid rocket boosters (SRB) fires (as it ejects) the unit is been lifted from the ground to a particular altitude. At a preset altitude the rocket boosters detach from the ET and Orbiter (this is the altitude up to which the SRB are responsible to carry the Orbiter).
Stage 2: At this stage the External fuel tank (ET) the external fuel tank gets detached from the Orbiter.
Stage 3: the Orbiter enters the orbit.
Stage 4: after the project is over the Orbiter retrofire returns.
Stage 5: Orbiter returns back and enters the approach path as shown in the figure.
Sage 6: Landing of the Orbiter.
